Elegant, comfortable travel across Europe

Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) is set to make rail travel so much more enjoyable for passengers than simply getting from A to B thanks to a redesign of its ‘Nightjet’ service, the overnight train that links Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. With smart new upgrades and state-of-the-art sleeping compartments, the new fleet could inspire travellers to swap planes for trains when travelling through Europe.

ÖBB is working with internationally renowned studio company PriestmanGoode on the design of its upgraded Nightjet fleet.

Fulfilling passengers’ needs for more privacy and greater comfort, the new generation of carriages will feature a sleek and stylish range of compartments such as family rooms (that can sleep up to four people), first class apartments with en suite bathrooms (suitable for two people) and sleeper pods for single travellers, each with dedicated storage space.

PriestmanGoode is also working on the upgrade of ÖBB’s Railjet (day) trains which will include a redesign of economy and first class areas with comfortable seats that feature adjustable footrests and USB charging sockets. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the trains, as well as new personal, digital information panels and improved mobile connection services. Private berths are fitted in both first and economy class carriages and can be booked for business passengers or families travelling together.

Commissioning of the first trains is planned for 2022. The new fleet will be used across various European countries, including Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. If needed, the coaches can also be equipped for connection operations in Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Poland.
