National Museum in Wellington NZ. The First World War saw Māori soldiers serve for the first time in a major conflict with the New Zealand Army. On 25 April 1915, as part of the New Zealand and Australian Division, the New Zealanders landed at Anzac Cove on the Gallipoli peninsula, and fought in the Gallipoli Campaign under the command of British General Alexander Godley. The combined British Empire and French operation was mounted in order to eventually capture the Ottoman capital of Constantinople (now Istanbul).



Arthur's Pass, climbing to more than 900 metres through Arthur's Pass National Park, is the highest and most spectacular pass across the Southern Alps in NZ.

Lake Hāwea is located in the Otago Region of New Zealand, at an altitude of 348 metres. It covers an area of some 141 km² and is, at its deepest, 392 metres deep.


The Huka Falls are a set of waterfalls on the Waikato River that drains Lake Taupo in New Zealand. A few hundred metres upstream from the Huka Falls, the Waikato River narrows from approximately 100 metres across into a canyon only 15 metres across.


Milford Sound is a fiord in the south west of New Zealand's South Island. It has been judged the world's top travel destination in an international survey and is acclaimed as New Zealand's most famous tourist destination.


Waiotapu is an active geothermal area at the southern end of the Okataina Volcanic Centre, just north of the Reporoa caldera, in New Zealand's Taupo Volcanic Zone. It is 27 kilometres south of Rotorua


Franz Josef Glacier is a 12 km (7.5 mi) long. Viewed from lookout at end of valley walk. In June 2010, an Australian tourist died of a heart attack during a guided hike of the glacier.
